What a Week!!

Snow, snow and more snow.  That four little word has been a big part of our lives this week.  We came home early from Raleigh due to the falling white stuff and finally today we are seeing it begin to melt. On Wednesday, Mr. decided he had cabin fever and wanted to get out of the house.  So we trekked off to the beach and I snapped a few pictures.  You don't see snow on the Wright Brothers memorial very often. Very cool.

I'm not the best photographer but it's quite beautiful to see snow on the beach.

Well we are off tomorrow, back to Raleigh, to celebrate several family birthdays.  Hope we get to there with no problems.  Have a fabulous weekend!!!

Old Dresser to Gorgeous Vanity

In the last few months Mr. and I finally finished our home. We completed 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. While designing the bathroom I came across several pins on Pinterest turning an old dresser into a vanity. What a great idea!! The best part, I had several dressers to choose from from for this DIY project. (Mr's great grandparents home, built in 1910... lots of history there) The hard part was convincing the Hubby it was the way to go.

After talking him into it, we chose the perfect dresser for this task and cleaned it up. We removed the mirror for a later project, sanded the top to smooth the surface and scuff sanded the sides to prepare them for a new stain.  We used the dimensions of the sink to cut a hole in the top and back for the drain.

We ended up losing storage from the top two drawers due to the the sink bowl but the bottom drawer is still useful.  So the front of the two drawers are glued to create a facade.

We then added new knobs to the front and coated the entire piece with polyurethane to make it waterproof. We then added the sink, along with an antique bronzed faucet.

The finished piece is beautiful! The best part, something from the original home here is now preserved and will now live on in our home.

If you have any questions or would like more information regarding this DIY project please comment below.  I'd love to hear from you.

Weekend

Over the weekend I visited my family in Raleigh. The trip was cut short due to the inclement weather we are getting now. What a Bummer!
While I was there my sister told me about this great little store in downtown Cary.
The Perfect Piece  is a unique home decor store with a combination of new and upscale consignment items, furniture included. Independent shop owners, artists, and designers rent booths and transform them into their own special boutique. The booths are then left unmanned, unless they are there sprucing up or adding merchandise.  There are staff at the entrance of the building who can take care of your purchase and make sure the right shop owner receives the funds. Customers can request custom work and some shop owners will allow a little bartering. That's pretty cool! We took our time and strolled through the store to see what they had to offer.

It's a great avenue for exposure for new artist and designers to get their goods noticed and hopefully purchased. My sister and I are both rabbit lovers so whenever we get the chance to see some cute ones we are happy.

These guys are all adorable. The shops are all quite charming and really individual which is nice. So the next time you are in Cary, stop by and take a look.
Have a lovely week.  We will be digging out of this snow tomorrow.

Fabulous Friday Finds

Hello Friday, so happy to see you this week!  After the wintry weather we've had I'm so looking forward to Spring. So here's my Five on Friday.

During my hibernation this week I came upon this adorable skirt from one of my favorite stores... LOFT    I do love stripes so this may end up in my closet this weekend!  eek!!!

Making sure we are exfoliating dead skin off our face is very important, especially this time of year. This scrub from  CLINIQUE is very nice and leaves your face free of that nasty dead skin and feeling clean and smooth.

This cute cosmetic bag from Tory Burch was a Christmas gift from my Hubby. It is a little small but I kinda like that.  It has a side pocket in it and what a great color. I love it!!!

I've been using a lot of this cute little orb lately. A great lip balm from EOS .
(Evolution of Smooth)
It's filled with moisturizers like vitamin E and shea butter so it makes your lips feel smooth but not greasy.  It's so darn cute, and the best part, I can find it in my purse.

A surprise Christmas gift from my Hubby this past year were these beautiful boots from
TORY BURCH.  I had been dreaming of these for quite a while.  They went on sale right after Turkey Day and by the time I was able to go online to purchase them my size was already gone. I went on with my life, wishing I had been quicker with the clicking of the keys on my computer. Now get this, my sweet husband had already purchased them.  Man did he surprise me!!! Gotta love that!

Have a great weekend! Keep dreaming of summer... well at least spring.  It will be here soon!!!

Winter Wonderland

Today has been a winter wonderland in our part of the world.
We rarely get snow here on the east coast but when we do it is really beautiful.

Our loveable pup, Chloe, was very leery of getting out in the fluffy white stuff this morning.
So prissy, she doesn't like the rain and she hates  to get her paws wet.

After a little investigating she decided she loved it!

Max, on the other hand, decided sitting in front of the fire and soaking up the
heat was his way of enjoying the day.

Hope your Wednesday has been wonderful.

Wintry Tuesday

Hope everyone had a great weekend. The wedding expo was a blast! It's a 2 day event showcasing all the Outer Banks has to offer brides (and grooms) trying to plan one of the biggest events of their life. It's a bit overwhelming. Here are some of the demos my friend, Melinda, with Just Desserts, had showcased in her booth.
She has amazing attention to detail. Check her out, not just for wedding cakes but for any celebration.

Looks like winter is not finished with us yet.  We are expecting more frigid weather today and maybe even snow. Brrrr....
So add a coat and gloves to this and it's my look for today.  Hope you have a great Tuesday staying warm and dry.  I know I'll be dreaming of warmer weather and maybe a tropical cocktail. Yum....

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday Friends!
This weekend, I am helping a dear friend of mine at the Outer Banks Wedding Expo.
The Outer Banks is a very popular place for destination weddings so this show is huge for all the local wedding associated businesses.

My friend, Melinda, owns Just Desserts and makes the most beautiful cakes.  She is amazing!  I could be somewhat partial due to the fact she made our wedding cake. The best part, her cakes not only look gorgeous they are just scrumptious!  Even the anniversary cake,a year later, was wonderful! I have helped out for a few years now and even though I've been married for over a decade it's still fun to go to the show.  The brides are so excited about their upcoming nuptials and I love to hear their plans for their Big Day!
Hmmm, maybe I'm a wedding planner wanna be???

Anywho, have a great weekend!

Goals for a New Year

2014 is well on its way! It's already the middle of January, can you believe it??? I remember as a child my parents telling me the older I got the faster time would fly.  I certainly didn't believe them when I was 12 but now I sure do.
So, here are a few of my goals for this great year.

- Laugh a whole lot more (who doesn't need to do this?)
- Tell someone you love them ( you know that person needs to hear it)
- Dream (someone told me long ago, "if you lose your dreams, you'll lose your mind")
- Meet new people (as we get older it seems harder to do this)
- Reconnect with an old friend (today, with all the social media this shouldn't be hard)
- Try new foods (this one is very hard for me, I'm a picky eater)
- Be a great role model for a young person (young people are always watching and imitating)
- Show kindness to others (always think your Mother is watching, would she be happy?)
- Say "I'm sorry" if you are wrong (small but very powerful words)
- Learn something new ( a new language, DIY project, or skill)
- Forgive someone, mend the relationship (Man, is this one hard??)
- Listen more and speak less ( one mouth, two ears...)
- Accept that compliment you just received (yet another hard one for me)

What are some of your goals for this new year?
